The Bones Lineup is a Mixed Bag of Tasty Treats
57Locals are expected to turn up... This means you!
I'm not really sure if I titled that correctly, because some of these bands are from up North and transplanted to Louisiana after high school and others are from Austin and Houston, but, c'est la vie.
When I was first asked to write this blog about the lineup this weekend at The Bone Deep Ellum, I honestly was a bit bored. After last weekend's turnout for ASKA, who can blame me?
Yes, I realize that the Mav's game was on, but really? You'd miss a band that you clamor for as they are usually on tour in Europe just for a teensy weensy historic final game for the local team?
Okay, maybe I'm getting a bit peevish about this.
Honestly, the bands this weekend at the funky little nightclub in Deep Ellum are pretty awesome. Those of you Gen X-ers will appreciate the early punk/funk sound that the lineup has on Friday, June 17th, 2011.
Here's where we start:
The Backsliders, led by Kim and Chris Bonner, Jason Bonner, and Nathan Adamson will be opening the stage. If you are unfamiliar with the sound of The Backsliders, I think that the best way to describe them would be that they are reminiscent of the garage band influences that started during the British rock invasion. They are pretty cool. (www.backsliders.com)
Squint, what can I say about the throaty alternative punk rhythms this band has? They are a local favorite that seems to have caught on as they are now playing over 150 tour dates per year with bands such as Toadies, Goo Goo Dolls, Staind, Fall Out Boy, and Stone Sour, to name a few. Definitely worth hearing.(Check them out at www.squint.com)
The Red 100s will also be working the mic Friday night with Kyle Scheumack as their front man (and drummer) singing a blend of psych rock blues. These high energy performers are sure to rock the stage with Robbie D. Love on bass and guitar and Raul Mercado on lead guitar. These guys are a blast to listen to and fun to watch as well. (thered100s.bandcamp.com)
Finally, Pale Horse will be getting on the stage. If you're unfamiliar with their music, I would say that the best way to describe them is that they are a blend of rock, neoclassic, and psychadelic with a reggae vein just barely breaking the surface. Mega cool. (Look for their page on Facebook, but don't get them mixed up with another band with the same name... Not them!)
These bands can all be found on the Bone's website, www.thebonedeepellum.com.
Call for tickets or come straight to the door. Cover charge for Friday night is $6.
Saturday Starts Early on the Roof
If you're a DFW area biker that's active with the public, you're going to want to swing on by The Bone on Saturday for the Ride for Change biker rally on the roof.
Admission is free and starts at 2:30 p.m.
Hip Hop Tour Featuring Brotha Lunch Hung on Main Stage
The mix of rappers that will be gracing the main stage on Saturday night are truly unique and, as much as I hate to say this (sorry, I'm not the biggest rap fan out there), really good.
As much as I'd like to get into the nuances of each of the entertainers on Saturday night, I'm afraid that the lineup is pretty big.
Buy your tickets early. Trust me. Given the following that these guys have, you're going to find yourself listening from the outside if you don't either come in early or buy your tickets online.
All right, now that we have that out of the way, here is the list:
Brotha Lynch Hung featuring Madesicc
Scum
Fat Kidz, Inc.
Breed
TIPP-C
Mr. Ickus
Rebellious with a Cause
and much more.
The promoter of this concert come from the Razorblades and Alcohol Tour fame for the Tech N9Ns.
In closing, the Bone Deep Ellum has once again delivered an awesome cadre of talent that will fill the air with an eclectic mixture of music that truly represents the angst that many of us are living.
And to all those Mavs fans that are probably going to get ticked off at the remarks earlier, I was only kidding you.
